Belonging isn’t a perk — it’s a fundamental human need, and workplaces that cultivate it see their people and their culture thrive.

  • Duration: 3 hours / half day (15 min. break mid-way)

  • Delivery Options: In person or virtual

  • Ideal Audience: All employees and leaders

*NOTE: This session can be delivered as a stand-alone training experience or as a hands-on breakout session to complement the Renters vs. Owners keynote.*

Some workplaces feel like genuine communities. People know one another, celebrate each other’s wins, pitch in when things get tough and feel proud to be part of the team. In others, people simply show up, do what they need to do and go home. So what makes the difference?

We treat something differently when we feel a sense of ownership over it. We notice what needs attention, take greater care and feel invested in what happens next. The same thing can happen at work. When people feel connected to a shared identity, know their contributions matter and believe their voice has value, work becomes more than a place they occupy. It becomes a community they are helping to shape.

Of course, building that kind of connection isn’t always simple. Today’s workplaces are often wonderfully multigenerational, bringing together people with different experiences, expectations, communication preferences and ideas about what makes work meaningful. For hybrid and remote teams, fewer informal interactions can make it especially easy for people to feel disconnected or overlooked, which makes creating opportunities for genuine connection even more important. When we add different roles, locations, schedules and working arrangements to the mix, and creating one cohesive community can take real intention.

This interactive session explores how belonging, recognition, psychological safety and a sense of shared ownership can make work feel better for everyone. Participants will discover why meaningful recognition needs to go beyond a generic “thank you,” consider what helps different people feel seen and valued and explore how curiosity can turn differences into opportunities for stronger connection.

Through hands-on activities, honest conversation and plenty of practical ideas, participants will take a fresh look at the culture they help create every day. They'll leave ready to strengthen connections, celebrate contributions and help build a workplace where people feel proud to say, “This is my community, and I have a part in making it great!”

Key Learning Outcomes for Participants:

  • Explore how a shared sense of community and identity shapes workplace culture.

  • Discover how psychological ownership inspires greater care and contribution.

  • Understand how authenticity, trust and inclusion create belonging.

  • Use curiosity and inclusive communication to bridge differences in a multigenerational workplace.

  • Make employee recognition more personal, meaningful and effective.

  • Identify everyday ways to build trust, demonstrate integrity and strengthen connection across the workplace.
